Rescoring “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (1974)

As both a study in granular- and spectral synthesis, and as a passion-project, I have decided to rescore Tobe Hooper’s 1974-masterpiece – “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. Apart from it being one of my favorite movies, the film seems to lend itself to an open and creative rescoring due to it’s differences in pace, and ambivalent, some might say mystical, imagery.

Cue 1m1: Opening scene

I am rescoring the movie in Logic Pro x, using only the stock Alchemy-soft synth for the music.

This is a typical Alchemy-patch. Here I’ve made an unstable choir-sound, using only low-resolution sine waves. It is first heard after the first camera flash.

The samples of digging and groaning are borrowed from the Soundly library. The original narration is preserved, but the radio chatter is remade using elleven-labs AI-text-to-speech.
